Riv AllRounder 2008
1996 era Waterford-built AllRounder with chameleon (purple and green) paint. Bought small (58cm) for possible offroad use, lately spending most of its time on pavement for commuting and errands, and only occasional camping trips.
Equipment: Ritchey 90s-era crank 28/38/48 with 8speed rear; Shimano A530 dual sided pedals; Dream bars; Nitto racks with reflector tape added; Carradice Camper bag on back (carries easily two sacks of groceries); Little Loafer upfront holds the battery for the Light&Motion headlight and a sport radio strapped to the top; Planet Bike Superflash rear light (suggestion: ziptie the light to its holder and the holder to the rack. Guaranteed not to fall off and thieves at least have to cut the zipties). The front rack also holds a Velo Orange flashlight mount (just visible on the left side of the rack) for a backup headlight.
The small wheels gives this bike a nice zippy ride. Schwalbe Marathon Racer tires are wonderful: puncture-resistant, long-wearing, with a reflective sidewall.
Since this picture, I have traded out the SKS fenders for Velo Orange 60mm Al fenders. Now I can fit the 1.9 inch Schwalbe Marathon XR tires under the fenders for more robust off road riding. I like the VO fenders alot.
1983 Trek 630
I bought this several years ago and made it a project this summer to restore it to full glory (with upgrades). I touched up the frame, overhauled bearings and replaced worn components. The original (stock) components are:
- SR Aerox cranks (52/40) and BB (Q-factor around 141mm), headset, seatpost, Suntour MK II derailleurs, Gran Compe 500 brakes.
The new upgraded components are:
- 32 spoke wheelset using NOS Suntour Superbe Pro hubs and Velocity Synergy rims (O/C rear).
- 7 Speed Dura-ace MF-7400 freewheel, 13-26.
- Simplex Retrofriction shifters.
- Grand Bois 700x30 tires.
- Grand Bois Randonneur handlebars with Nitto tech. deluxe stem.
- Gray Brooks B-17 Ti.
- Dia-compe 204 levers and new cables.
- TA road pedals.
One neat thing about this bike is it has a low trail geometry very close to my VO Randonneur. It's beautiful to ride and look at! Weighs just under 24 pounds.
